Hey my friend has an 2005 duramax like mine (lifted, tuner, exhaust, ect) and he wants to get the tranny built and start running serious power (EFI or PPE+hot 2, lift pump, water meth) but hes nervous to do this because he has 165,000 miles on it and he thinks the engine will start to break apart. So will his engine hold up or should he just leave it the way it is?
If he wants to do it, then he should. Mileage doesnt really matter if your gonna be replacing parts with aftermarket ones anyway. Its all in how you take care of and treat your truck. A 165,000 mile truck well taken care of is better than a 65,000 mile truck that is put through hell and never cared for and maintained. Just my 2 cents...

LIFE'S TOO SHORT, PARTY NAKED!!!
well all he is going to do is high hp tune, tranny, lift pump, water meth and stacks. so you think he should be fine. parts like rods, pistons, heads, turbo, he is worrying about
Its not the mileage what will kill the truck , Its not having the right tune that hurts any engine. As long as you get a good tuner ( Person not program ) that knows what there doing that truck would have plenty of life left in it.
to answer your question,my RC LLY had 140,000 hard miles when i got it! it was completely stock and a week later it had EFILive, lift pumps, built tranny and some other goodies and so far she seems to love the abuse!
proper setup is cruscial but not just because of miles either, for best performance gains and longevity you always want proper setup when adding HP..
the list you mentioned is a great start for higher HP!
