depends.

Run your truck for a day, come home, pop hood, and let it sit for 4 hours. After 4 hours, go to your truck, and feel your upper radiator hose. If it is rock hard, that a sign because your heads are lifting and pressurizing your cooling system.

Did you check your oil? If it is the head gaskets it will put collant in the oil. That WILL make your motor lock up. If its that the oil will look like a chocolate milk shake.

However, you should smell coolant if its doing that. Id take it to a shop and have them pressure test it to see where the leak is

thats how I do it at work. GM has all these stupid great little test they want us to use. Why when if you do exactly what he said to do you will know. I have never taken one apart and the gaskets wernt blown after doing this.

2006hd

I need tips from you specialist out there about how to test drive a truck that i am thinking of buying. I looked at it Saturday. The Oil Pressure guage is showing from 25 to 30 lbs when sitting idling and it goes up to 60 plus at 2000 rpms. Is this normal? And what are some other ways I can check this truck out before I pass the cash? It has 151,003 miles on it.

nothing but respect for the techmechs

Hello Hondarider552, I see that you are a tech. I sure dont want to impose upon yalls conversation but if you have a little extra time this morning and if you know some tips for checking out a 2006HD with 151,003 miles on it in regard to buying it I would be so thankful sir. The oil pressure guage is apprx 25 to 30 idling and sitting at 60 at 2000rpms. I have a 2008 Ford F350/6.4powerplant in the shop with a locked up engine and the oil pressure guage always showed 40 plus idling on it.

Yup thats normal for these trucks. Thats when mine runs at with 30,000 miles. What are they asking for the truck? IMO a 06 with that many miles should go for around $18,000 miles.

Check your waterpump. Mine would leak and not even hit the ground when parked.
