there is significant impovement potential in the exhaust.
There is improvement potential in the intake as well. But not a one of these idiot companies manufactures the piece that is damaging flow. They all replace the parts that have no issue, with inferior product. And you pay for this. It's your tax refund.
The weak link is the intake tube... Look up AFE StageII and the StageII gives it the Larger "smoother" Tube from the airbox or in the CAI case cone filter to the top of the intake as well as a new mount and placement for the MAF sensor

There are cases in which upgrading the tube has no effect on Horsepower or Torque, I believe that the D-max may be one of them. But if you are one of those dead set in you ways, I do know that AirAid offers a Modular Intake Tube...M.I.T. that you can use with their CAD or factory Air Box...

There are no measurable improvements to be had in a larger tube. All hype, all untrue.
So many people are unaware of just how easy this is to test. A little diligence would really reduce the volume of our landfills.
I agree the "torque" tube is the most pointless waist of money you can buy for your truck. The only way it could possibly make a difference is if you buy a bigger turbo and are putting out 600HP.
Definatly a waist of $100.00
Here it is

Air flow is everything for a diesel. Any lack of available cold airflow effects your power, fuel economy, and accuracy of combustion. You get what you pay for. I installed a Banks Ram-Air and the most noticeable change from stock was my throttle response.

I picked up from Lowe’s, a 2-1/4” x 42” piece of foam weather-stripping for window A/Cs for about $2.
It fits perfectly, wedged between the box and fender on the side, and between the box and the Radiator support. Starting at the vertical side near the coolant tank, I then moved horizontally toward the front, and around the corner toward the radiator.
About midway of the box, there is a perfect vertical flat piece to wedge against going down toward the inner fender to complete the seal. This final gap is wider than the others so, just fold over the remaining strip to double in size.
It’s just the right length with no trimming involved and nothing but cool air for the intake.
I’m going to run it tomorrow and check for a difference, it’s been pushing 100*f daily here now. I may still need to cut some additional inlets in the forward facing side of the box, we’ll see.

Made for sealing around a Window A/C unit, closed cell I believe, and it is tightly compressed with no leaks. So far, a noticeable performance difference, much more spunky acceleration under load with the same throttle.
Still checking for a difference in MPG as I'm trying to adjust to less throttle used in relation to the same acceleration. I'm hopeing to keep my foot out of it to realize a gain in mileage.
I may not see an increase, but hey, it's only 2 bucks and it does run better. We'll see after I run through the latest Franklin in fuel.
