Your right some people say ya and some people say no. If your gonna mod the truck (programmer exhaust etc.) Id get the whole intake. I just put a S&B on my truck and am very happy with it. They have a quality designand are cheaper than most other companys. I noticed a little gain in HP and maybe 1 or so MPG.

I have AirAid intakes on both my trucks and noticed a difference. The duramax from what I hear doesn't need one until you get pushing 450-500hp or more, but you will be able to gain a little fuel eco out of one regardless. I like AirAid because of their warranty, their customer service, and formost their designs. They will only release an intake with significant gains over stock, and if there is no gain in losing the factory silencer tube, they won't. They have great products.

and of coarse, they have test results to show this supremacy?
I am just so happy to hear that there is finally an intake company with ethics.
Way I look at it is....if you want to look "cool" in front of your friends, and make your turbo whistle a teeny, tiny, bit louder.....and you don't mind wasting like 300-500.00 doing so....then go for it. But if you are looking for MPG gains, and HP gains that will make you happy you spent the money.....you won't find that. I know I have one...and I'm bashing them....but mine was Free with my exhaust purchase.....and I would never actually cough up money for one.

I installed the AirRaid system also. Everyone said the factory intake was sufficent, but I have always believed bigger is better. You should also remember, you can't get air in if you can't get air out, so exhaust is also very important.
