newbie egt ?

My brother just put an edge in his 05 Dmax and is having egt problems. I know this is a stupid question but what is the max egt that is safe? I told him to not let it get hotter than 1300. On highest setting he is hitting 1400 by 3rd gear when he is getting after it. I told him he needs exhaust upgrades but he isn't sure what he wants to do.

Any advise?

Thanks

He put it down to the economy setting and that fixed the problem. What is the max egt that he should allow and for how long? He wants to take this truck to the track every now and then to run the 1/4 mile, but he doesn't want to cause problems with his motor. Kinda like having his cake and eating it to!

1250-1300 for extended periods. Mine with a stock tune with the exhaust upgrades that i have will hit 1100 towing and hold it there when on hills. It won't hurt it to go higher for short burst, like when drag racing and sled pulling don't even look at it you will be scared. Mine it 1650 in the 1/4 mile.

A good exhaust system and air intake would help. Those would probably drop the egts about 100deg.

The intake restriction is the biggest area where EGT can be improved. The harder it is to turn the compressor, the higher EGT will be in the turbine.

vane postion decreases from 68% to 45% with an intake modification, and egt drops 150 F. There is going to be a story on this on maxxtorque.com.

like stated above do an exhaust and that will help with dropping the EGT's..where is the Pyro located because on my LBZ i have the Pyro on the driverside manifold and evenm with the BD manifold i have a hard time keeping it belowe 1700* and have had it to 1850* one time but for long periods i don't let it over 1300*..thats just my story
