Id say its normal! Your probably hearing the truck suck air through the less restricted air filter and housing. No leaks or anything.

There is a way to check for leaks. Get a can of starting fluid and with the truck runing spray A SMALL AMOUNT of starting fluid around all the connections. If theres a leak the idle on the truck will raise.

Another thing to look at. I also just recently heard the older duramax's have a peace of metal that rubs through the intercooler tube that runs along the front frame.

This will work on a gas engine because they have vacuum in the manifold-- these trucks do not have vacuum, so this will test not work-- unless you have a BIG hole to spray the starting fluid in. However it is very bad practice to use any starting fluid on these engines-- could cause an explosion from the heaters or even worst-- damage the internal parts of the engine.

The boots to the inter cooler get oil soaked from the PVC system and will slip --check the boots and clamps.

It IS a good test.BIG holes will be painfully obvious, this is fer the smaller, hard to see ones.I think he said a SMALL amount of spray, outta do it.Got better method, post it up...We know about hydrolocking pistons with start fluid, but when at idle,if ya don't use a TON,you'll be OK...

If these trucks have no vacuum then how is it getting to the heaters to blow up or cause damage to the internal parts? Not trying to be smart, but either it will suck it in or it wont.

BTW it will work.

Yup ther is definatly vacum in the intake and boost lines. If there wasnt the truck wouldnt get any air!

It will damage your vehicle to use a ton of starting fluid. But, if there is a small leak then a small amount of fluid will go in and the truck will be fine.
