Going from a stock intake to a volant i noticed no difference in anything, temps, track times, hp output!!!!
The only difference i noticed is when i dyno, folks say wow, 450 hp with a stock airbox? now they say oh 450hp thats ok?

what measures the intake temp? what do you need to read it??
any real time scanner. Predator works well. It is built into the MAF sensor, and reported to the PCM.
No aftermarket intake will enhance track or dyno performance on this truck. But you want a good CAI if you will be towing heavy loads on hot days in high grades. There are real power consequences to the vehicle under sustained load, that don't happen in a 12 second run.
Edit: IOW, unless you will be using it to tow heavy, or other activity where 100% duty cycle is encountered for minutes at a time, with fan activity, even a cold air design is a waste of money. The fan is the major instigator of IAT heatup.

If anyone looks at a AFE dont bother with a stage II there pretty pointless. $100 more for a elbow thats identical to stock

My intake paid for itself with 500 miles of summer towing, a 2 mpg increase. It is not sexy, and it comes with no cool stickers. But the difference on IAT is night and day, especially when in "fan" season.

Well that is quite a discussion on intakes. I run a stock box with a K&N and run K&N in every vehicle, motorcycle and ATV I own. Any gain in power was never an issue when I purchased my first K&N, saving money was. I live in a dusty environment and changing filters on more than a regular basis is expensive. I have been on this forum for over a month and have seen everyone wanting to power up their vehicles, but I always wonder in the back of my mind is the power used for some real world application or just an ego trip. I just believe that if you have no real need for more power other than to show off why bother. I can relate if you are pulling more than 10000lbs or you take your truck to the track on the weekends, but for daily driving and the occasional camping trip with a 5900gvw trailer, that’s a cake walk for the Duramax. Don’t get me wrong the Duramax was an upgrade form my cherished 1984 K10 Scottsdale, but no matter what I did to keep the fuel economy high and power high I still came out short every time. (I guess in all fairness I should mention I bent the rear axle tube overloading the truck also) One of the two had to suffer. I just finally came to the realization that if you want to pull you need a diesel. Well I have been saying that for a long time but never thought I could afford a diesel, but thanks to high gas prices no one but the serious folks want them anymore, at least as far as trucks go. Anyhow I guess all I am saying is for what I do and I bet most others also, the Duramax has plenty of power.

So this is an old thread, but is there just a filter you can drop in to the stock airbox that will improve this? Should you cut the hole in front of the headlight to increase cold air going into the box?
