For You LLY Owners

How many have installed a new mouthpiece/pipe to the turbo(specifically the one mentioned in discussions here)?

In an honest description, what did it do to your performance?

Are any details included w/the mouthpiece?

Ease of install?

You must understand that the more serious work... I do not trust myself and must find folks to work on it. I guess what I am saying is that I feel I need to change this out, but am wondering mostly about ease of install...............

I put mine on TODAY. Can't say anything about performance because I haven't had a chance to test it out. I have stated in many posts "I am no mechanic" but this was really an easy install. Hardest thing was lining up the mouthpiece to get the V-band back on. Just by the looks there's a hugh difference in size.
Instructions are great along with photos. You might as well reroute your PCV and cap off your resonator while you have it apart.
I'll be towing this weekend so I'll let you know what I see in improvements.

Please do !!

Is there a lot to take out of the way to get to it?

Me and two buddies were looking at turbo tonight to see how difficult it is to get in there.

Did you buy kit or just mouthpiece?

You remove original induction tube from airbox, then the resonator (black thing with 6.6 on it), pull the pcv valve out of the way and then use a screw driver to remove v-band on turbo. Goes back on in reverse order, just a tighter fit at the mouthpiece due to the larger size. Belive me...if I can do it, so can you. Have one of your friends hold the new mouthpiece in place while you tighten up the new v-band.
I never knew I could do so much on a vehicle, but with the help of all these guys on this forum, I've done more on this vehicle than I have on all the vehicles I've owned in the last 30 years. These guys are sharp. Just ask and you'll get all the instruction you need.

Is the new mouth piece made with a less severe angle? It can't get much bigger around and still fit . I ported mine out today, haven't tested it yet. Working sealing up my air box better then see what happens. Let us know if it helped out.

The 100 degree angle is still there, it's just that the inside corner has been expanded to smooth out the turbulance. You can see it pictured here:

About a 1/4 of the way down is pictured 'Making of an airflow model'.

I put mine on 2 day ago. I purchased the overhaul kit with the new mouthpiece. I feel the quality and fit was excellent. It took me twenty minutes to put it on. Only problem I had was dropping the torx bit somewhere on top of my engine where I still can't find it. Anyway, as far as performance, I still haven't towed but I'm getting about 1 mpg better since I change it out. I had already done the Hook'em Horns CAI mod. Can't wait to tow as I had overheating issues last time.

Talking

“Necessity is the mother of invention,” I find it very satisfying to see the average end-users overcoming the ‘engineered’ obstacles we are presented with…is this a Great Country or what?

The link to the picture really doesn't do it justice. The new mouthpiece dwarfs the old. It is larger in diameter and carries that diameter a greater distance towards the airbox. The intake tube appears to be shorter to compensate for the larger mouthpiece. If I had an aftermarket intake I might be satisfied with porting out the mouthpiece, but Killerbee's new and improved version is pretty damn impressive.
