I just installed temp probe for the exhaust on the passenger side manifold. I have a bully dog power pup, that I got for free, and I have it on the Tow/eco setting. My temps are reaching 1300 degrees without getting on the pedal hot and heavy. So I am nervous to even try the performance setting. When I tow my camper the engine temp does not over heat but my exhaust temps seem to be a little high. What would you guys think. I need to fill out my sig. It is a 2005 GMC Crew cab short bed, bone stock except for the chip.
Thanks again...
if it is a newwer truck with a cat find a downpipe back exhaust and put it on will see dramaticlly lower exhaust temps. on level five its actully pretty hard to get above 1200 deg on my truck with a 5 inch exhaust and a stock truck will run even cooler with a 4. also check your air filter.

Ya I definatly agree with dmax500! Id talk to one of the vendors and get either a turbo back exhaust or just deleteing the cat. That way your EGT's wont be getting that high. Also, your right I wouldnt go any higher on the settings. I heard if yuo get the engine hotter than 1350 the aluminum heads will start to warp causing serious problems.

So it sounds like I need to do some mods. The only issue I have is I don't want the added noise that comes with removing the cat and putting straight pipes in. But if it will lend a hand in the longevity of my motor I will consider. The other problem is I saved a long time and paid cash for the truck and the wife is not letting me put any money into something that is working ok. What are my best options for the least amount of noise and the best product for the littlest amount of $$$$? Oh yea how much am I looking at? Thanks
If you don't want the added noise run the muffler. The cat is where all the restriction is, get a Turbo back exhaust with a muffler and you will be good to go.
Also if you don't want to spend a lot of money just go to a exhaust shop and do a cat delete on the stock exhaust. It won't be as good as a 4" system, but will be much better than what you have now.

So long if you find an exhaust that has a muffler youll be fine. Magna flow and MBRP are good choises. I find that alot of the people (not all) on this site like the 4" mbrp catback exhausts. I love mine casue it has no drone at highway speeds and doesnt drown out the radio. Also, checkout Kennedy Diesel or PPEs site they have easy airbox mods. If you want to spend money I found that the BD manifold was good for a few degrees.

Dont argue with a moron in public....Others may be confused on whos who.
Ya I agree with BigRedChevy! All the exhausts come with mufflers so keep the muffler and your truck will still be relativley quiet! Im not sure but IIRC 4x4fantasy has a pipe to delete that cat on his website and its pretty cheap IMO! That way you can keep the factory muffler and just buy the pipe to delete the cat. There are also several other ways to delete the cat as well such as removing it adding pipe and some clamps etc.

Thanks guys for the input, I am still doing some looking. I think I might just take the cat off for now. But I am also looking at the aluminized MBRP turbo back, as it is cheaper than the t-409. Does anyone know how it would hold up since it only comes with a 3yr warranty verses a lifetime with the other? Thanks again for all the info

if you want super cheap look up jegs $250+shp. for a full 4" exahust i have the five and love it. actually pretty quiet but deffinite increase in turbo noise.
another question everybody does the bully dog block codes for too freeflow of an exhaust? or does he need a egr blocker and fingerstick?
