I'm looking at buying a used Hypertech Programmer for my truck and the dyno sheet shows a max gain of 113 HP and around 185 TQ or so. Three levels, OBD code reader, tire size correction, and it seems to do everything the more expensive PPE Standard does except tranny relearn\reset. Why are the Hypertech's so much cheaper then with dyno sheets to prove the power? Does anyone think I should avoid it?
I drove one with an Edge Juice with Attitude and I put it on extreme and with 325\60\18's it put you back in your seat pretty good!! I don't know what power level that was but if this is anywhere close why the major price diff???
Anyone with a Hypertech or info please chime in!! Thx!!

Well one thing is that the PPE standard is upgradable to the hot+2 et so that will account for a little bit of the price. The other thing is the quality of the tuning, i have not used a hypertech so can't really comment on that but i have used Bully dog. Bully dog has dyno sheets to "prove" power too and it is nothing like the PPE. PPE puts out a lot more smoother power through out the power band and runs a lot more consistant than bully dog ever did. Like i said i have not used Hypertech so it may be good, but i know that PPE is good.

I've heard the same thing as BigRed has. Just sloppy tuning when compared to the PPE or other higher priced ones. I think it will do just fine, and for the price its cheap power, but I would put my money elsewhere.
Wildcat, I have the Hypertech on my 07 Classic, three stages and it works great for me. Stage 3 put a big smile on my face. I haven't used any other tuners yet, so I don't know what I might be missing. I found it on Craigslist and the owner loaded it up on my truck and we tried it out. To me it was a cheap way to get started and yet not enough to get me in trouble with trans and stuff. Police is a completely different story. I'm a weak man!

I have a hypertech max energy. It works great for me. gives me more power and better mpg. I just have one problem... I want more, more, more.... I think I'm going to upgrade to efi live to feed my addiction..

I have had the Hypertec III for about 6 mo. and love it for what it is. A lot of power without having to get a new tranny. Has helped with fuel milage, towing and performance. Wish I had more money for an expensive programmer, but this one will do me fine for my uses and towing.
I've got the Hypertech on the same truck as you. I love it. Never been over the second setting because it's more than enough for me without having to worry about the trans. I would buy it again.

You got to remember hypertech has been at this tuner stuff longer then anyone else. Most of the time being first usually has its benefits. I have had hypertechs on other trucks and they perform as advertised. I got dyno graphs from my dyno to prove it. Pulse according to them you can tow on the 3rd setting?!
