if i idle my truck for over 15 to 20 min it will start smoking when i start driving. The smoke is white and smells like burning garbage or a lmm regen. Is this normal?
Thanks

No expert by any means, but how many miles on it? Mine had 44,000 on it and smelled HORRIBLE, and did so until i pulled the cat off and put the straight pipe in- also lost the smoke issue (light colored- 2 dealerships couldn't figure it out and said that nothing was wrong.....BS). Been told that people believed my cat was plugged/getting plugged.

Know what you mean, but mine didn't smell like the usual "gasser rotten egg" smell. Was very hard to describe, just knew it wasn't right (although dealership said it was- no other diesel that i'd been around had smelled like it). Had a few people thought it was my injectors but dealership said those were good. Figured would start with the cat and go from there. If he wanted to keep it at least that would be under warranty.

My 4500 and 5500 pump trucks do the same thing. I took one on a job
(Brand new truck) when we kicked in the PTO and reved it up it looked like it blowed up. The trucks usually idle anywhere from 2 to 30 hours before we start workin the truck. All of my diesels do it but they never act up or anything just smoke for a little bit. I guess they are just burnin soot or something?

i've had my truck now for about 2 weeks and the smoke has died down a little but the smell is terrible, it cant be good for you. In 2 weeks i have driven 3000 miles and idled about 30 hrs. i'm going to get rid of the cat very soon.

If that cat is plugging up it can be horrible,BTW the catalyst in there is toxic,so if you remove it yourself[I did/with Sawzall]get cloth face/breathing paper mask, and protect you eyes!!then drive to exhaust and get a 3.5 diameter piece welded in.I had the ex shop weld in the pipe where my muff was,but just got the pipe from him and welded [mig welded]in place where the cat was..Do it,you'll be happy, better EGT's and killer sounding turbo/whistle..
