Oil change before towing: gospel or ???

Or is this an old wifes tale? I searched all over my owners manual and could not find anything that said yes, at 500 miles change the engine oil and trans filter before towing anything.

Looking for a definitive answer here.

No, you do not need to replace the oil at the 500 mile break in before towing. I asked the dealer just before I went on my 3000 mile trip pulling a 10k lb. 5th wheel. I had 1000 miles on the truck just before leaving on my trip
