Coolant leak issues RESOLVED

I have a 2006 lbz, and for the last month or so I have been leaking coolant, and could not find the source. It bagan with a random leak one morning while warming it up. The coolant was dripping down the passenger side fenderwell, but I could not see where it was coming from.

I looked at many threads on here and also diesel place and in any thread that had the same symptoms, there never seemed to be a resolution, or the original poster never let us know what the solution was, so that was not helpful.

I began checking it and had the collapsed upper hose, but was not leaking. I cleaned the rad cap and things were fine for about 3 days, with no more hose issues.

I then noticed it was leaking while driving, but could not get it to leak just warming up. I kept refilling the expansion tank, and it kept dropping to below half the tank, but never got a low coolant light. I had no signs of head gasket failure at all.

I began thinking that it might be the pressure tank, but had nothing to back that up. Last night I was looking at it and happened to pull on the top of the expansion tank and heard pressure being released. Did it again while looking at the rear of the tank, and sure enough, somehow the seam where the 2 halves of the pressure tank come together, had somehow seperated enough to release fluid when above half under pressure, or gas if it was below half full.

Just something to look at if you have a leak and can't find the source, and don't have head gasket symptoms, or any bad hoses or water pump leaks.

That is really good to know, especially as summer heat is upon us (at least it is here in Phoenix).

Your contribution is an excellent first post . . . thank you:thumb
