06-07.5 LBZ & LLY Duramax PowertrainDiscussion of components that are directly involved in the power production and all that is needed to get and keep the truck moving . Engine , Transmission Ect
I have and '06 Duramax and it won't start without being plugged in. The glow plugs have been replaced. Once the truck is warmed up it will start every time but when it's cold it must be plugged in to get it to start.
I took it to a friend of my son's who works on diesels and he told me the motor is shot due to the air raid air intake sucking in oil/dirt.
The truck has 88000 miles on it and has not been run hard or pulled a lot. When running I don't see a loss of power or and difference in it from before. I find it hard to believe the motor is shot.
Has anyone else has this problem or suggestion on what the problem might be?
I am thinking about taking it to the dealer and having them check it since I have less than 100,000 miles and to be this should be covered under the warranty.
I would suspect that your batteries are the problem... maybe one of them went bad and now there is not enough CA to turn over the engine when it gets cold...
Im currently having the same issue with mine... that and the fact that I only have 900CA batteries in it dont help...

What would make him think it is shot? Did he do a compression, and leak down tests or is it just guess? I would start by putting a new fuel filter on, then two new batteries. This will be a lot cheaper than a new motor!!! Keep us informed...
