06-07.5 LBZ & LLY Duramax PowertrainDiscussion of components that are directly involved in the power production and all that is needed to get and keep the truck moving . Engine , Transmission Ect
Wow you guys are confusing.
Let me try to pull it all together for you...
First off:
The Transgo JR is ONLY applicable to the 6 speed.
If you have a 5 speed the "Junior" does not fit - PERIOD.
The full Transgo kit (not the Junior) IS applicable to the 5 speed. The problem is you need to pull the entire tranny to install it. Most people believe you're wasting your time with this kit because if you're going to pull the tranny you should upgrade the clutches instead.
The TC also requires the tranny to be completely R&I'ed for both the 5 speed and the 6 speed, and is the first logical upgrade for both transmissions. However, again, if you are going to pull the tranny, it makes sense to upgrade the clutches while you're there.

One thing I don't know is if the valves in the Transgo JR are the same as the valves in the full Transgo kit.
Hopefully IdahoRob will chime in on this one.
Personally, if I owned a 5 speed I'd save for a SCIII and a Torque Converter and call it good.

Why do you say that?
Should it read - upgrade the clutches at the same time, since the tranny is out?
I'm truly surprised that Transgo doesn't have an on-line brochure for these things. I scoured the web looking for one before I bought my Junior kit.

With the help of a few experts out there, I think we should agree on the facts and post a sticky on this subject. I know I went through the same confusing research before I bought.

clutches and transgo do separate things, addressing separate issues. At least that was my understanding. If that is not true, tell me.
Both transgo kits address line pressure in the respective trannys. The pre-06 "full" kit also addresses something else, but not sure what, must be apply springs or some deficiency that was beefed up in 06. Hence the price diff. Transgo does what no other change internally can do...again, correct me if I'm wrong.

Will a moderator kindly cut some of these posts into a new thread titled:
Transgo shift kit - Information gathering.
Once we're done we can create a sticky.
I believe you're correct. The Transgo kits primarily address the valve body, increasing line pressure.
The full transgo kit, intended for the 5 speeds, also addresses the C1/C2 Drum assembly, but I don't know if this includes the c1/c2 clutches.

Geez no wonder he is confused I was confused reading the frickin' thing...
If you intend on going beyond the 90hp tune you will want to follow one of these options
Here is what you do... If you are mechanically inclined order a Suncoast Stage III kit which will support up to 500hp to the wheels or a Stage IV kit which will support 500+hp for a 2005 LLY Duramax in either one of the kits comes the necessary clutch packs, and a Transgo kit to increase the pressure in the transmission itself and is fitted specifically for your application, you will also want to discuss what your intentions are with your truck with whoever you order it from. They will help you pick out the proper converter. I would suggest a 1056, or 1058 but they will tell you. Also you will want an Allison Transmission service manual then once you have these you will be able to attempt to install it yourself the directions are pretty easy to follow. If you do not feel up to working on the transmission contact a diesel performance shop and have them do the transmission for you. I am not sure which side of ohio your on but if your not all that far from Indiana I would check out Fleece Performance, Danville Performance which are close to Indy, and or Dave's Diesel which is in Muncie, IN

I think you share a very widely accepted opinion of the Transgo Kit for the 5 speed. That is to say, it does not have great value by itself.
Still, I think there could be a few people out there who might only be interested in the Transgo by itself - if for no other reason than to save a few bucks.
