| Best combo for improved MPG, less focus on all-out power So, to describe my truck (yes, I am a complete n00b, but I've been lurking for awhile now)... My LBZ's engine/trans is stock save for... -Banks turbo-back with no cat -EGR block off with electronic finger stick -S&B CAI -Banks EGT and boost gages -BD driver's side exhaust manifold All the work was done by the previous owner that traded it in to my dealership...I have not touched the truck mechanically, drove it as my demo for almost a month, and bought it Saturday. I have been getting 15 MPG when adjusting for speedo error (truck has fresh 285/65/18 Silent Armors)...a 14.5 MPG tank included 100 miles of towing 6,500 lbs with my gooseneck horse trailer. I would like to improve MPG...more power is awesome, but less critical than an MPG bump. I like how this "lightweight" regular cab 4x4 hauls ass ![]() It would appear to me my best option is EFI Live through Rob, while adding an AirDog lift pump. Is this accurate? I admit I may take the truck to the track once or twice to see what it will do, but I have 3 Camaros for that stuff ![]() Longevity and MPG are my 2 most important things. Admittedly, the truck is not a DD, and due to its pre-emissions status, I will probably hold onto it for the next 6-10 years, adding 5-7k a year to the 87k it currently has. Awesome forum, BTW... I have been on several GM forums over the years, and this one appears to me to be the diesel truck equivalent of LS1 Tech, which is a high compliment IMO....

| Here's a little tip, pay attention to your EGT gauge. Keep the egts as low as possible as often as possible. The more fuel you burn, the hotter the exhaust gets.

| Before I do EFI Live, do I need a new lift pump? Reading archives, there appears to be some argument on that...

| naw. you will need one if you are getting built tranny tunes. but at that point you could be kissing mpg goodbye due to a heavy foot. a lift pump is nice for keeping your fuel clean tho |

| Thanks for the expert opinions I believe the less I mess with things, the less likely I am to have an issue. Something with a 50-75hp tow tune that gives a small improvement in fuel mileage, and has a non-towing tune with a good bump in MPG, is primarily what I am looking for. I know keeping my foot out of it will help a ton, as well. Its so hard to do!I can't imagine ever going over a 75hp bump unless I had something to prove at the track  I will be doing some additional EFI Live research, then will contact vendors through here. If all I need to do from here is add EFI Live, that is huge...thanks for the help!
