MPG for a 2006 dually 1 Ton 4x4

I just sold my cummins because I need a long bed and the only long beds I can find in my area are dually's even though I really do not need a 1 ton dually

with that said I may just buy this 2006 dually 1 ton 4x4 because it is a good deal but I am worried about MPG's

My question is how much worse is the fuel mileage for a dually 1 ton 4x4 versus a 2500 3/4 ton 4x4? I would imagine the 1 ton's are 4:11 gears versus the 2500 are 3:73's that has to make the mileage worse right?

any input would be greatly appreciated. what are you dually owners getting for MPG's

thanks in advance, this info may keep me from buying the truck

I have a lbz dually, and get 13-16 around town. 18-22 highway. It's not so much the truck as the driver... You can get it tuned as well, and that will get you better fuel milage. If you would like info on tuning pm me. I use a program called efi live that customizes your truck, and I have an economy tune. I get 10-12 towing an 8k trailer with gear, fully loaded truck.

thank you very much Cknight199, I will definitely take you up on that offer if I buy this truck. I will confirm tomorrow if this is a LBZ or LLY. if it is an LBZ the eighth digit of the Vin is a D or a 2? I forget

is there a fuel mileage difference between the LLY's and LBZ's?

Lbz and lly is basically the same engine, except Lly's have head gasket issues if you try to pump too much hp, and lbz's have pistons that crack if you want too much hp out of the engine... Don't get scared they only have problems if you get way high miles or horsepower for a stock motor. The lly is basically a detuned lbz. Same engine, different tuning, if you get an 06 lly, you can tune it for the same tuning as an 06 lbz...

The 8th digit of the LBZ VIN is "D".

They’re the same 3.73 gearing on both Dmax HDs, as with the gasser HDs with 4.10 gears. Mileage will be a bit lower on DRWs vs SRWs. I think it’s the big open parachute hips more than anything else. More mass with the extra two wheels, but the six are smaller/narrower than SRWs, so I would think it would balance out between the two.

Running the same route, I’ve repeatedly seen an increase in mileage (2mpg) when running with 2-3k lbs of low-profile load (marble/granite) in the bed vs running empty. Even with the greater energy needed to move more mass, squatting down the rear and filling those huge hip bellows with tires reduces the drag enough to offset the added weight. (my theory )

I get 17 mpg average with my 06 lly dually 4x4 while driving to work & back. Its 27 miles one way & I average 40mph. Several stop lights and quite a few turns. Not really "in town" driving but definitely not highway driving. The only mod I have is a cold air intake.
