well with the 35's i have noticed a big loss in power and the motor lugs at 75 mph in 6th gear i run it in 4th to get rid of the smoke. its no where near as fast as it was! Thanks LH4x4 for your input!

if you're having to change gear to keep from smoking with an unloaded truck you have a bigger problem then gears

When, because of tall gears and large tires, you find yourself constantly under boosted and under revved. Namely because there isn't enough exhaust flow to spin the turbo to supply adequate boost for good combustion...this always results in smoking. Add a tight torque converter and the problem will worsten still. An 06 especially, has some real challenges in tuning smokeless, unlike an LLY. I have evaluated some of these hack commercial tunes also, unimpressive.
If anything, this thread should also correlate gear ratio with converter/tranny mods, not just tire size. The whole configuration should be considered before thinking about regearing. I would suggest a high rpm converter as an alternative to regearing (especially if tranny work appears in your future). 4:56 could be very important to performance if you have slipped in large tires AND a tight, low-rpm stall converter. With this configuration, you would have a smoking dog of a truck.
There is another problem that is taken care of with regearing. Speedo calibration. Shift points are speed dependent.
I also like to preserve hiway economy. If you can't manage at least 1900 on the hiway without a fuzzbuster, you will lose a lot of mpg. If you are always lugging 1400 rpm, you have every reason to re-gear. If you do cross country traveling and enjoy 80 mph most of the time, regear to 1900-2000 for that speed. If you find yourself cruising at 2400 rpm empty (because of regearing), you are giving away fuel also.
Some thoughts to consider.

Hey Killerbee i appreciate the info! I'm at about 1600 at 75 mph and most of my drive is on a very slight incline thats the reason for the lug and 4th gear keeps my truck responsive for passing. I use manual mode alot. I plan on doing a complete tranny upgrade soon but i can regear for pretty cheap right now. What gears do you recomend?

Well if it helps any my truck does 70 at 2150 rpms but with that six speed ali you have, you might like a steep gear like I have. Just my opinion though....Yall don't burn me on the cross for saying that. Oh yea when I regeared mine, my power came back, my milage jumped back up, and the throttle response is outstanding.

my truck ran 2000rpm at like 74ish with stock gearing and 315's...which is prettty close to where you wanna be for optimum mileage

I'm just gonna throw some 4.56's in and let the big dog eat! Plus that should still give me enough top end to whip Brian down the track! Haha! Its not like anyone here is moving faster than 130 in the quarter and that should be top speed with the low gears!
No, I'm not saying my truck will do 130 in the quarter but she should scoot pretty good until it drops the tranny! Hahahahaha!
