Just got a 06 GMC LLY 4wd. I noticed tonight that it has a light smoke that comes from the exhaust all the time and gets heavier with throttle. Looks to be a light color and only noticeable in someone else's headlights. It kinda has a diesel smell to it but I'm not sure if its more than a normal smell. The check engine light is on and has been since I bought it last Tuesday. The dealer told me that it was a bad glow plug and I have an appointment next Tuesday to have that changed. The bad glow plug could not be causing the smoke could it? Any ideas on where the smoke is coming from? Under WOT it does have a deep black puff to it then back to the light colored smoke.
i would check the injector harness where it is zip tied by the alternator to make sure no wires are rubbed threw and also check the connectors on 2 and 7 the LLY had an issue with this,

As far as I know there are no known performance mods. There is a little black box under the hood that says edge performance on it. It has a braided line that runs to the exhaust manifold and a black ruber line running through the fire wall. Not sure what that went to, it has no ECT gauge inside and no other signs of a programer. The dealer said the guy that traded it in was a regular customer and that he did not have one on it but you know dealers can be. You cant see the smoke in the daylight only when the headlights behind you hit it just right. Its also only getting about 13 mpg hand cal. which seems a little low to me. It has 295/70 R17 terra grapplers on it.

When you take it off, you will probably lose most of your problem. And some power with it.

what would that programmer be called like model number or something just so I would know which one it is? I dont mind the smoke just as long as its not harming anything. where does it run to through the fire wall. there is not any monitor or gauge inside or anything.

hard to say....should have some info on it...sounds like it may be the juice without the attitude...what does it plug into?

the 06 LLY and LBZ with a straight exhaust and EGR blocked will smoke like that even with stock tuning! i never understood it but our LBZ did it since 500miles when it got a straight exhaust!

I would kind of expect it if it had a straight pipe on it but it still has the cat and muff. I will have to look tomorrow a little harded at the little black box all I can remember is that it has edge performance on it. The ss braided line runs to a snesor in the exhaust maniflod on the lower passenger side. Coming out of the box is one black wire ran thru the rubber with the sterring column. I have no experience with a tuner/programmer but I thought they would have something inside to change tunes or monitor what you were doing? This one does not, at least anymore. Thanks for all the help, I would like to have it all figured out by the time I go back to the dealer to have the glow plug fixed incase there are any other issues.
