Swiss Cheese Airbox

Hey guys! I know when when I was looking at putting an intake on my LBZ alot of you suggested to just "swiss cheese" my air box. At the time, I already had an S&B on the way so did not try it. However, my sister has a 1500HD and I am wondering if it would have the same affect on the 6.0L? She has a thottle body spacer so there is not enough room between the intake and fan for a full aftermarket intake. Am looking at new filter and "swiss cheese" box. Think it would help? Also, what size holes should we drill? Thank you!!!

My old truck was a 1500. The stock intake tube had a resonator box built into it. I installed an AIRAID Jr. intake tube between the stock filter box with a K&N stock filter. It made a big improvement in throttle response & it had louder intake noise.
I did not drill the air box. In theory, Swiss cheese the air box you would want to drill the bottom of air box to try to get more cool air from behind bumper. Similar to BANKS.

The gas trucks dont need as mutch air as a diesel does. It should help a little but I doubt she will be able to notice. Maybe try getting a K&N replacement filter? Id use like a 3/8 drill bit to help keep some debris out.

The intakes on the 5.3L and 6.0L comes straight out the front so there is not enough room for a full intake and throttle body spacer between the throttle body and fan. Believe me I have tried to fit both! Wont happen unless you go to an aftermarket fan/spacer or electric fans. Aftermarket will run full time and rob what MPG I gain with the intake and throttle body spacer and I dont want spend $300 for electric fans. We are adding a K&N replacement filter and just thought some holes in the air box might help too.

I had an Airmax air intake on my 5.3. When I got my dmax I put that on my Dads 6.0. He could tell a slight difference but he didnt think it made a big enough difference to justify the cost of one. I just gave him the setup but I will be getting it back to try and sell since he is going to get a Dmax in the spring. I loved it on my 5.3 I did gain 1 mpg and just gotta love the noise it produces while WFO

it will help somewhat but nothing near what it would do for a diesel

get a k&n filter and ditch the throttle body spacer...they dont do anything..then if you want but an aftermarket intake...

i have a good friend running a volant on his 5.3....works great and he noticed a slight improvement
