what is the difference between lbz and lly

how can you tell the difference between the two engines? My dad has an 07 with the old body style how do i tell?

YEp your dad's truck is an LBZ. IN the new body style is when the LMM came out. The LBZ is a stong motor. IT's got about 50 more hp than the LLY. They do run pretty good.

LBZ is a more refined version of the Duramax. More power and a stronger block.

Mine is an '06 3500 but my 8th digit in vin is a 2. I suppose it is an lly.

Yes the early 06 were lly. Everything built after 01-01-06 are Lbz.

That is true. But that is where the similarity ends. The 06 LLY and 06 LBZ, are identical in every way, except for tuning, which is a mute point as soon as you hook up a tune.
