Mods and Factory Warranty, Do they mix?

I now own a 06 Duramax LLY, 6spd allison, with 60K.

My question is what mods will not void the warranty or at least mods that the dealership doesn't care you have?

I was thinking of doing the EGR blocker plate, which I know about, but what is the finger stick? And what are their purposes and performance gains?

Also, thought about a muffler delete and possibly cat delete, but don't want any lights on in the dash or void the warranty?

Do they make chips or tuners/programmers that GM approves of and are safe for the stock tranny and keep egt's relatively low? And improve mpg's?

I don't want anything extreme I would just like to get my LLY(310 hp,605 ft-lb) into LBZ(360 hp,650 ft-lb) territory.

Thanks for all the replies in advance. This site is great!!

Hey! For what mods will void the warranty. Its really up to the dealer. If they want to be a pain changing the tire size could void it.

However, Id have to say an intake and a cat back exhaust will be ok. Theres a bunch of theories on a programmer. Some say if you take it off when going to the dealer they can check the computer ans see if you had one. Id say if you take it off most of the time theyll never know.

For the blocker plate and finger stick. The blocker plate helps keep soot out of the motor and unless they take the tube off no one will know you have it. The finger stick. It will not give you any power gains what so ever. All it is is a computer chip with 5 wires that you run inline in the factory wiring harness. If you do it good you wont notice it there. But, if the dealer sees it that will definatly void you warranty because your modifying the wiring harness. The only thing it does is eliminate the EGR code that usually sets when you put on a cold air intake and a straight pipe exhaust.

How much mpg increase could I get out of a 4" turbo back exhaust, intake, egr blocker plate, finger stick, and a programmer like a Diablo Predator or PPE Standard or Economy on level 1?

Also, how much hp gain could I expect to see with these mods?

Going back to the warranty issue. If I took the programmer off before warranty work would I be okay, or should I just call the dealer and ask them what they'll tolerate?

Thanks for all the help.

Honestly, I can't tell you what or what not a dealer will say about the addition of performance parts. I know its on the dealer to prove a performance part caused a failure but its up to you and how much the warranty means to you.

If you do a turbo back exhaust, you are deleting the cat. converter so to be safe go with a cat-back exhaust.

treat them like they are the IRS. And perfect the stupid look when asked about programmers.

Legally you are going to be protected by the Magnusson Moss, but all it takes is one dealer to say "no warranty for you" and now you are going to have to fight GM for it. Things like removing the cat and the EGR blocker are going to be more likely to void the warranty than a programmer or a cat back exhaust system would.

I personally have had zero problems with warrenty work being done on my truck, as of yet. I have had it in 3 times since I purchased it in the fall of 05. I have never takin the banks stuff off and the dealers have never said a word to me about it.

Usually if u purchased the truck from the dealer where it is being worked on, sometimes they tend to "look the other way". So be nice to ur dealer.

The thing I do is I learn the managers name. Just knowing his name and being nice to him goes a long way. If you are all ways nice to him and dont piss him off, you are going to be just fine.
