EGT's

Just installed gauges and had a question. A friend of mine told me that before i shut my truck off that I should let my egt cool to around 300. Any truth to this? I tried it and it would take about 5 to 10 minutes to cool that low before shutting off. Cools down to 400 real fast though.

Perhaps...the oil that get stuck in the turbo won't have to be subjected to much higher temps.

I let mine cool down to 350 before I shut it off. It helps just to take it easy the last couple miles so your EGT's are already pretty low. You can also get a turbo timer that will let your truck idle for a set amount of time before it shuts off.

Just let it set and idel for a min. or 2. The only time that you need to let it cool is if you have been pulling hard and you are pushing high temps. If you turbo is hot from high temps and you just shut it down there is no oil cooling the bearings and thats win you can have trouble..
