That PPE sure has nice documentation. But besides ruining a very expensive water separation process, you are assured of increased water ingestion in heavy rains. This oem design came about because of first generation water ingestion.

All for no gain in performance. It's not restrictive. Makes you wonder why, there is always somebody who thinks they are smarter.

The reprogramming comes in if you decide to put the 06 intake on an earlier vehicle that has a smaller MAF tube. MAF voltage rescaling is necessary, easily accomplished with EFILive.

i would sugest just buying a hole new airbox assembly b/c if you ever decide to sell the truck for another you can always put the OEM airbox back on.. on choices of airintake look at like SnB or AFE

i don't see how this increases water ingestion. Why is is that 90% of the cold air intake kits out there feature an open air element and nobody complains about water ingestion. Especially with how thick the stock filter is, i don't see how it could possibly make a difference. Even driving in a torrential rain, i don't see alot of water even getting near the filter, let alone causing any problems. I am sure that if i drive in 99% humidity, i am getting more "water" in my engine than if i was driving in the desert.
Next time it pouring, i am gonna go and drive around and then park in the garage and pull the filter out to see if there is any moisture inside the tube.

In 99% humidity, you are not exposed to any "water".

So do you really think GM contracted and paid Donaldson to incorporate water separation into an intake that really doesn't need water separation?

After 2001 debut, GM plugged the fender source vents, with a TSB, specifically because of element failure, enough water to collapse the structure when the turbo ran high MAF numbers. In 2006, they opened them back up again, but only with the new intake, and centrifugal pre-element water separation.
