I didn't catch this earlier. If I had, it would have cut short my comments. It obviously is not my desire to offend anyone, but just about everything you tried to point out has already been proven incorrect.
I did not realize you had a fiduciary obligation to defend KN.
Hi everyone! Sometimes I'm as dumb as a rock, lost too many brain cells from the lead in painting cars with no resperators when younger, but is a drop in air filter one the replaces the stock air filter element and stays in the stock air box?
What I can't figure out is if they say that the replacement aftermarket ones get you better gas miliage, don't most people drive fairly sensible and not WOT? Since you are only partial throttle most of the time, shouldn't the stock AC Delco be able to flow enough air then and not be at their top end of flow? Most flow charts that show comparissons between stock and aftermarket only show a difference of flow at 3000rpm and higher.
How many of us run our trucks at that rpm and above most of the time unless you are racing or pulling. That is why I stay stock air filter and buy AC. GM might have some faults but being the largest US auto manufacture, they should have some of the best paid engineers to design what you need to make the truck last reasonablely long in everyday driving.
High performace is a different matter.
Just my $.02 worth. I also don't want to upset anyone and step on any toes.
I agree with you. Most drivers are just every day drivers not racing or pulling all the time. Even if you are pulling all the time, a CAI doesn't really make that much of a difference. My EGT's stayed the same pulling with stock and then aftermarket. I'm thinking about putting my stock back in. Everyone has different experiences, and different opinions. For ME and my driving habits...an aftermarket CAI will never benefit me. And honestly, I drive very sensibily, and not WOT...but most of the people on here push their truck to the limits. I personally couldn't do that.

Wow! Not to sound Negative Nancy here but CAI are for all intensive purposes, a joke. Someone other, than me, take there PPE downloader (or whatever tuner you have) and look at the live streaming data sensors when driving and note that the temp. on your overhead mirror is within 5 degrees of the temp reading on the IAT sensor located in the intake tract. Does 5 degrees make $400 sound like a logical perfromance upgrade? When daily driving?????

To be honest, you have not seen the real problem your truck has. A "real" CAI is essential...the problem is that none of these aftermarket manufacturers make one that is very effective, though that is changing a bit with a few of them. But it took a lot of screaming and name calling to get them to acknowledge that they were producing incompetent products.
If you go tow with your vehicle, and get your fan spinning, you will see your IAT scream north. Then you will have a better idea why a CAI is critical. I have seen IAT goe from 120 to 190 in under a minute at a stoplight. Towing a stiff grade, up to 235! And its a huge power burden, with MAF down around your ankles because of reduced density.
Your post is a good observation, until you get'r working hard.
killerbee... I read a posting you provided a link for that debunked all the air filter hype. I printed it out and took my time reading it but, I need to send it to my friend as he is needing his first filter change and is considering the options. The article brought up some very helpful points for me about engine longevity and I know that will mean alot to him as well. I have spent about 30 min looking for it again and I just can remember where I found it. I would appreciate it if you could resubmit it. Thanks
I appreciate your willingness to share information.
