Adding oil to Gas Tank

Heard that with the cheap diesel there selling us these days, that adding a couple quarts of oil is better than a fuel additive plus it gets better fuel mileage. What are your thoughts?

The duramax injectors are extreamly sensitive. The holes that the fuel pass through are about the size of a human hair. Id say stick with injector cleaner if you want to add anything. If you read the owners manual it actually says NOT to add any additves

Alot of people who are use to the old diesels or even semi's will say that its a good thing to add oil or atf but these trucks are a whole different animal.

Heres a pic of the injector..

Go ahead if you dare, but the Dmax's are not designed to run dirty engine oil. Sounds like guaranteed trouble. The crankcase oil will carbon up the pistons, and may clog the injectors. If you want to run an additive (I do every other tank year round) try DieselKleen. I have heard of others running Marvels Mystery Oils or even 2 stroke oils in small qty's.

My D-max a ran many miles on oil. The key is dont go over a 10% blend. With the new fuel it will thin out and be a great for the btu. In my mind dont add atf, I cant tell you how much inj I have had to replace cause people ran atf at every oil change.

Like i've said before if you are set on using oil in your tank, put in a bit of two stroke oil. Its made to burn so chances of messing something up with two stroke oil is not as likely as it would be if you were using ATF (alot thicker than two stroke). Plus if you happen to get dipped with the ATF in your tank, then you can get a pretty good fine (PER GALLON). Diesels are not made to run with oil in the fuel so you will be taking a gamble with a $40,000 piece of machinery

X2 Not worth the trouble. Just better off to recycle the used motor oils at your local auto parts store. Not to mention again that motor oil IS NOT designed to burn in any engine - I would like contact when you have excessive carbon deposits and/or injector issues. I will stick with what works--- Diesel Kleen.

There are a set of stock lbz injectors on ebay for about $1000 right now. Probably want to get those if you run oil in your gas tank. Putting oil in to the tank will destroy the injectors. Just spend some money, and get proper fuel addative. There are a bunch of good ones out there, I use Stanadyne in everytank. Might back off to every other tank.

Second on the stanadyne..that is all I recommend. It has worked wonders for clearing up clogged injectors.
