Welcome to the forum.
The EGR recirculates some of the exhaust gasses back into your intake. The blocker plate does just that, it blocks the gasses from recirculating back into your intake. The reason you don't want exhaust gasses in your intake is because diesels produce soot and that soot will eventually choke off your intake, plus soot is abrasive and you don't want it introduced into your engine. Unless you have a programmer you will also need the "Fingers" stick, it manipulates the code so you don't get an error code from low flow through the egr system. kennedy diesel sells them for around $50. I put one on my truck at about 3500 miles and after seeing photos of intakes I'm glad I did. You may also want to consider the BD performance driver's side exhaust manifold.

You will need the fingers stick or you will get an error code, but kennedy sells the the plate and stick together for the price previously listed.

do the straight exhaust firsts and see if it throws the code and if it does then invest into the fingerstick or better yet invest in the PPE,ATS,EFILive,Quadzilla or Dialbo and have the EGR disabled plus block the codes you mite say kill to cats with one bullet(meaning get a programmer and the egr done at one time with one item,the programmer)and then you will only need the EGR block plate..just my thoughts

I got no codes,I had it off since Monday morning,and I've towed a 5303 John Deere tractor w/16 ft trailer,awesome whine with a load,I got prog. first then proceeded to remove that kitty,and boy,I should have done it long ago.I think if your emissions package is FE9,[like mine has]the most basic one,then ya should not have as much trouble,I don't know this fer 100%.I figured that it only cost me around 100 dollars with the elbow grease to do it,got great sound,and for the amount of power I am pushin for now the stock diameter[straight through now]will suit me just fine...

Where could I sell such a piece,it's only got 43,000 miles on it and if you look good in other end,you can still see some light,and the ''screens'' are intact also,I would hate to get in trouble for trying to sell it,but what the hell good is it under the carport???I'd take 200 dollars every day of the week and twice on Sunday!!
