straight pipe exhaust- got 2 codes

Just installed my new 4" straight pipe exhaust this evening and man is it cool!! Sounds awesome and I can see the drop in egt's already. I hope it will boost my mileage at least a little- 1 mpg? Who knows. My question is- on my Edge I checked for codes- it had 2. Both were egr stuff. I will have to see if they come back up. I erased them before I thought of getting the codes. I think one said egr position?? Will I need to do something here or not worry about these and set my Edge to erase these? Just don'twant to screw anythin up. Thanks- Jason

Its the EGR. if you lost your Cat it will through the codes. I would do a EGR block plate and a finger stick and be done with it for good.

What will happen if I do nothing about this? I know that on gas motors when egr problems occur, it is possible for your mileage to suffer. I will have to do more homework on the blocker plate and finger stick. Don't you have to splice into some wiring for the finger stick? Also, when you do the egr blocker plate, are you actually removing some pieces from the motor?

Are you getting the codes and a SES light or just the codes. Nothing happen if you don't do anything, but i would look into the blocker plate anyway. It will keep the inside of you engine much cleaner. You don't remove anything just add the plate to block the exhaust. Here is a link to the install instuctions.

Hmm ya are you getting the SES light or just codes?

I have a 06 LBZ like you! 10 miles or so after I straight piped mine the SES Light came on. I didnt have a programer at the time so I didnt touch it. It went out after a few (i think 5) cycles of the key. After that it came on about 5 times total in the past 15,000 miles. It usally comes on when you go up a moderate grade where the truck hast to struggle between gears. I bougth the finger stick and never botherd to use it.

I have driven the truck 2 more days now and there have been no more codes- I keep checking every time I drive it. I only got the codes on my Edge a few minutes after the install and first drive- the SES light has not been on at all. Around town I haver already picked up 1 mpg. I am about to drive 300 miles on Wednesday, all highway and steady. I will have to report back what mpg 's I get. Sounds like I will go ahead and do the egr blocker plate. THIS THING SOUNDS LIKE A BEAST NOW!!!
