autometer thermocouple extention?

Tried to install my autometer phanto 2 gauges today, only to find that the thermocouple was too short to reach my overhead mount.I cant believe they wouldnt just add the extra 2ft.Anyway,is there some kind of extention or do I have to rig it myself.

Hmm where were you mounting it on the engine at? Did you already drill and tap it? Its reccomended to put on the passenger side but the drivers side is ok to. The BD driverside manifold comes with a hole to install the gauge! Also, what way do you have it run? If its on the passenger side could you run it in the passenger side and up the passenger pillar? Anyways im not sure if you can splice that or not.

I don't know what the wire looks like, but as long as its just a plain copper wire (or aluminum or whatever), not some special coaxial or something with two wires in one set of insulation or whatever, just add on a couple feet and go to town. I did a tranny temp gauge on my ol beater this weekend and the wire for the sender for it was just regular wire, so hopefully yours is like that too. I just added like 3 feet so it'd reach where I'm puttin it at. Still works great.

Thats kinda what I was thinking at first.. I wonder if it would mess with the accuracy of the gauge? I have no clue how the wires work?

As long as its just plain 'ol wire it shouldn't have any effect on the reading, or at not least enough to be noticeable, considering it reads basically in 100* incriments.

I'd say if your still worried, just try it and see if it works. If it doesn't then your not really out anything, other than 15 minutes to undo it. Worked fine on my tranny temp gauge, so I'd assume they're the same, but could be wrong.

Try ohm meter on wire and the get speaker wire same length and see if it has simular readings. I would assume if it does, then the speaker wire would work

if you cna try and get some either soild strand aluminum wire or at leat 5-6 strand. i just looked at an EGT harness that we have here and that's what autometer uses. if it's copper it's not going to make any difference but if you can try and use what they use.
