Newbie needs some opinions

I just got my 06 duramax a week ago that is all stock and i am wanting to get rid of the kitty but dont want to spend five or six hundred on a new exhaust system. So if i get the front pipe to delete the cat is there anything else i will need to do to the truck, like block the egr, or anything. ive heard of alot of people blocking the egr and getting a ppe tuner but im not really sure why. anyways what do you all think i should do?

i dont have a lly so i dont know for sure but i think you need a EGR block off to make the think stop throughing codes when you delete the cat. as for the PPE, it make a tone more power and get better milage. tuners and programmers are well worth the cash

You wont have to have anything else if you don't want to. Since you have a LBZ you have a 50/50 chance of throwing the EGR codes with the cat gone. Most of the time the codes will show up after some hard acceleration. If you do get these codes it will not cause any performance problems. In order to block the codes if you get them you will either need to get a PPE tuner, Quadzilla tuner, Diablo tuner, or ATS tuner. If you don't want a tuner then a "fingerstick" would be a cheaper alternative, but you will have to cut and splice into the maf sensor wires.

Blocking the EGR is a good idea, but not a have to deal. The reason why people block their egr is to keep the soot from recirculating back into the intake. If you do block the egr you will get a EGR code, but one of the tuners mentioned above will block the codes.

BTW welcome to the site!!!

well my 06 is actually the LBZ, dont know if it matters though. but i have heard some of them throw codes so maybe that is why they block the egr. but i also heard that just by removing the kitty you can get 3-4 more mpg's. thats the main reason im wanting to do it and to get more turbo whistle.

This is why you block your EGR

As far as 3-4 mpg just by removing you kitty, that is a little far fetched i would say more like 1 mpg. If you remove it and add a PPE tuner then i would say you can add 3 mpgs.

I put on a turbo back system when I bought mine and never had a code. No tuner at the time. Put the ppe on and blocked the EGR and no problems. Just put my PPE up for sale

alright thanks bigred, so i could cut off the kitty, block the egr and buy the ppe tuner to turn off the codes from the egr and possibly the kitty. about how much are the egr blockers and is there any certain one that you recommend getting?

i'm with BigRed,when i blocked my LBZ egr,did the straight exhaust and a PPE tuner i went from 16-17MPG on the highway to 20-22MPG on the highway.
i run the PPE on level 3 for best fuel economy but you dont want to tow with that much power since EGT's will climb very quickly.
