newbie needs info

hi everyone ,love the site!got an 06' lbz with edge juice w/attitude and BD 4" exhaust.i can only accelerate about 1/2 to3/4 throttle for a few seconds and then my egt's are hitting the 1400's!!!not good right ,is this normal?i'm only on level 1 or 2 on the edge.gonna put on a k&n intake kit soon cause i hear that helps lower egt's.this can,t be right what good is all this expensive gadetry when i cant even open her up!!any suggestions?who makes an egr blocker plate and finger stick for this engine?that may help a little too no?

STAY AWAY from the K&N!!! Go with a Banks, or Volant with a Ram air scoop to also help lower EGTS... But if I am not mistaken the LBZ trucks are notorious for overheating, if you look through the archives on this site you will most certainly find all kinds of ideas for helping with that...And WELCOME to the site!!!

no K&N

thanks big daddy, any solid reasons for not liking k&n?its just that i'm in smalltown canada and thats all thats available around here.so basically edge doesnt tell u that its product is useless without thousands of $$$ in other mods??!!i'm practically stock w 4" exhaust, so i will need a bd exhuast manifold, bigger exhaust ,bigger turbo,water/ meth injection, cold air intake etc...just to drive the way i want?(wide open everywhere lol)and thats only level 2!!!not to mention tranny upgrades if i want to go higher than level 3.seems like i'm chasing a 10,000$ dream rather than adding a simple power programmer!

yeah, first of all, any filter that uses oil will more than likely cause you problems with the oil getting on the MAF sensor, but I have personally seen Turbos that had the turbines prematurely worn BAD as a result of the gauze coming apart in them...
And I have to say, if you are looking to add a lot of "Dependable" power then you are right, you should do the other upgrades, however, you can get away with straight piped factory exhaust for now, and you can cut a hole in the front side of the intake and provide some fresh air to it, and if you are going to go above level 2 or 3, ie:anything over 90hp then yes sir, you will at least need a Torque converter... The BD manifold upgrade is an EXcellent idea too. IMO, anything that opens up the exhaust, is good to consider. But remember, if you let it, this can get addicting, and you will probably spend $10,000 or more over the next few years as you chase that power goal because there is rarely a point when we get satisfied.
But if you take your time and check around you can get some great prices on stuff from the vendors here!!!

Like Mike said, the only way the EGT's should be that hot is if the cat is blocked. I have an '07 with the cat still on it and edge set on level 4, and never see EGT's above 1350. Something in the exhaust has to be blocked. Not to take sales away from anyone here on the site, but I don't think you need to be spending boat loads of money just to get your EGT's down. Take the exhaust apart and make sure nothing is stuck in there. If it's a cat back system, consider getting a downpipe.

wow thanks so hitting mid 1400's on a daily basis is really bad and not normal!well it looks like it has a "BD"4inch exhaust on it already.with only one 8inch or so ?muffler? lookin thing near the back.whatever it is its coming off tomorrow.thanks to big daddy and meyer performance for the advice on the volant intake ,but due to price and local dealers/in stock availability i put the K&N 63-3067 intake kit on today, but i did not help at all! egt 0f 1000 degrees just rollin down the highway on 37" tires???who makes a egr blocker plate and the "finger stick" to go with?i get the 401 code after accelerating hard sometimes?=low egr circulation or something like that...pls. keep up the great advice really dont want to melt my motor!!!

I'd try either 4x4 Fantasy or Meyer Performance for the EGR block and finger stick. Against advice on here, I purchased a K&N intake and haven't had any problems with it. Definitly got to get those EGT's down. Try removing the entire exhaust and make sure it's all clear.

Even if you have already purchased a K&N, you can upgrade the filter later...AFE makes a filter with a 3.5in outlet that will fit the K&N tube...
I have another question, you said you have 37in tall tires???
is there a lift???
If so, When you made these upgrades, did you change the rear end gears? Installing lower gears in the rear end may help you achieve lower egts as well as not working the engine as hard, especially if you like to drive it hard. But that is just My personal opinion...

I have a buddy that has a 6in lift and 38's, he had issues similar to this until he upgraded the gears, that is why I was asking....
