Ckeck engine light on 06 Duramax LBZ

We are heading west on I40 from North Carolina pulling a Cameo 35sb2. I stopped about 150 miles from here at a Flying J to fill both tanks. and pulled into Albuquerque, NM into a campground. Everything fine no check engine light and running good. This morning I checked the oil and it was a quart low, so I added a quart. When I started it I got a steady check engine light. I have checked the fuel caps and oil cap and dipstick and everything OK. Any ideas on something else to check ? It still running good , no smoke as good as ever. I do plan to top off the fuel tomorrow before heading to Williams , AZ or should I see a Chevy dealer first ? The truck has 58,000 miles on it.

I would go to autozone or some other parts store and have them read your codes....most of them do it for free. Dealers might charge big time just to download the codes.

BTW, Welcome to the forum.

Turbo vane sensor..

I just got a check engine light on my '06 LBZ with 65000 miles about a month ago while towing. No obvious problem, just a slight loss of power. It was a code for the turbo vane sensor. Not covered by warranty, $850.00. GMC claims it is part of the emissions, which is only covered to 50,000 miles, even though it controls the turbo.
After doing some research it seems this is a common problem on the LBZs starting about 50,000 miles. Also, the turbo vane solenoid goes out at about the same time. I'm in the process of changing mine now just to prevent future problems. The cost is about $190.00 if you do it yourself.

I just got back from Auto Zone and the code 661, 662 and 663. The circuit to the glow plug open shorted or bad glow plug. Anyone know here I can look?

I have looked at the connections and can't find anything loose. I even unpluged a few and reseated and still got the check engine light.

LBZ engines seem to have problems with the Glow Plugs- GM covers them with warranty for 100k or 5 years.

It does not hurt to drive it , but will be harder to start in cold weather.

FYI, there was a recall that had something to do with the glow plugs. Probably a free fix!
