I'm looking to do an EGR delete on my truck. However I would like some feedback on the advantages and disadvantages of doing it. Also any recommendations on the best products and tunes out there for it. I also plan on doing a DPF down the road so I would like to get a tune that is compatible with both the EGR delete and the DPF delete.
I'm in the military so I have my truck registered in New Jersey which doesn't require smog for diesel trucks. I'm looking to make it race truck later on down the road and maybe do some light towing.
X 2 on deleting in Calif.
If you do decide to, I think you would be better off deleting the DPF first and the EGR could be turned off so you could unplug it then delete it at another time.
When you get deleted EFI tunes they turn off all emissions codes, all in one shot at the sametime.
No having to go back and make tuning changes later down the road.
On the EGR delete I went with Sinister EGR/EGR cooler delete, less cost, less labor, no R & R ing the up pipe and keeping the grid heater, also keeping the stock look.
Mines been on for almost 3 years with no issues.
It depends on what your trying to achive and what you want with the end results.
I had that question on my truck right after I bought it and the local diesel shop here said the first thing to remove should be the EGR as they slowly kill the motors with soot. I tore mine down and could not believe the crap that was in the intake. Heres a link to my original thread with pics a few pages in. http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/0...-doing-my-egr-delete-wow-i-saved-motor-3.html
Really off topic I'm new here. I have a question I have this tapped in the bottom on the Alison trans. & its a blue wire not connected anywhere what can it be?
I would delete the EGR instead of blocking it because if the cooler were to crack, it can still put pressure into the cooling system. If you remove the cooler then you remove that possibility.
