Hi, looking for info on what may be causing my diesel tank to not fill to capacity. I have an '08 w/26 gal fuel tank. When it's running on fumes and even below the E, (I only let it go that low to see if it would fill better) I'm lucky to get 20.5 gal and gauge shows max full.
Look for a previous post under my name my 08 has a 45 gallon tank and mine is reading empty I can only get 32 to 35 gallons in it when the gauge is showing empty
Its the 10 or so gallon reserve. If I go until the light comes on in my 26 gallon tank, Im lucky if I get 17 gallons in there. It's quite the annoyance when I can only get 280 miles to a tank...according to the fuel gauge.'dunno;
Normal- that is probably so you won't run out of fuel-- if you do it is a bitch to get it primed and restarted. Also if the fuel level is low and you are turning, stop and start, it can suck air and stall the engine.
^^^^Normal. Some guys have there fuel gauge rescaled when they get efi live. Personally, I'm glad though I never let my tank get even close to empty before filling it up. 1/2 usually, sometimes 3/4 if I know fuel is cheaper in the next town.
I rescaled mine. Or you can switch to gallons used in the display and run it down to your hearts content.
