Hello everyone this is my first post and hopefully many more. I just bought a 2008 GMC Savana 3500 with 342,000, well kept and have service records of work that was done. Overall it runs great but ive noticed the high pitched noise under acceleration only coming from the rear. Is this normal? Mechanic changed the diff fluid and told me not to worry about this, more or less sad its normal on these rears. If it is normal when do i need to worry about it or what to look out for. Thanks!
Only when accelerating, sounds like i have a ladder on my roof rack is the best way i can explain it. If it is the wheel bearing is there a way i could test it. I was thinking of jacking up the rear and just put it in gear and see where the noise is coming from?
Maybe, but depending onthe type of diff you have it may require both rear wheels to be off floor and you are taking most of the weight off the bearings.
Jack it up and do the test. If the bearings are bad (not just barely bad), you will hear the noise. Also carefully observe the entire driveshaft, ujoints, etc.
