High Idle Switch value? and EGR blocker plate?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum. Joined a couple of days ago and have been reading thru all this great info. I have been a Dodge guy for some time now but have just ordered my first D-Max (2009). I hadn't included the High Idle Switch option but was wondering if this was a mistake. I can still add if there is any value. Does anyone know whether this would help in not clogging the DPF. The truck would not sit idling very often but do have some concern. This DPF stuff is also new to me!
The other question is on the EGR. Dodge guys report a 2-4 mpg increase by simple unplugging the EGR on the 2008-9 6.7 Cummins. Is the same available on the D-Max? I've seen where people have installed a blocker plate. Does this just stop soot or does it also help mpg's.
Thanks!

IIRC the high idle is actually standard on the new trucks and will help with warm ups. It will only engage under certain conditions so i don't think it will clog the DPF. As for the EGR block it will only keep the soot out. The d-max doesn't see any mileage gains from this mod.

If you really want to see a mileage gain then lose the warranty and delete the DPF.

BTW welcome to the site!!!!

Thanks for the comments. I will certainly consider deleting the DPF but I want to see how the truck performs before doing anything. I don't hold much hope that the '09s will do much better than the '08s that I've been reading but one never knows.

The dmax's will certainly perform better than a 6.7. The dpf is killing the dodges right now. The dmax seems to handle it better and can still get pretty darn good mileage with it in tact. But you'll really do well once you get rid of it.

I have read many threads on the DPF delete and how it voids warranty. Being new and unfamiliar with what could go wrong, I do have a question. Has anyone simply tried coring out the DPF housing to remove the filter material and leaving all the sensors/fuel lines in place. Would this still throw codes? I believe the sensors only trigger a re-gen when the filter starts to create back pressure. With no filter, what would happen? Just a thought!
