Torque Converter Locking

Ok guys... I might be a bit too paranoid. But when my Torque Converter locks in (I have digital guages that tells me when it is locked) it seems to lock in kinda hard.. not real smooth..I really notice it when I am in Tow Haul Mode. Feels kinda like a shift kit when it switches gears??? Is this normal, or am I just paranoid..

Thanks

Sounds like it is a solid lock-up which should help it live longer. A soft shift will allow it to slip a little before lock-up and reduce the life-IMHO!

It's normal. In t/h the pump pressure is higher resulting in crisper clutch action (less slippage).

I have the 6 speed too.It doesin fact feel like a ''shift'' between 2nd and 3rd,but you feeling the t/c lock up....notice when you stoppimg in th mode, when it gets under 2nd gear,it unlocks t/c and you can def feel it.It needs to do this,Allisons are beefy and they need to live to propel a 3 1/2 ton truck!!!

It is perfectly normal. I love how firm the shifts are.

Mine has done it since new, and everything I can find about it says its OK. I like it; feels like a truck rather than a Dynaflow (for us older guys). I did read that it is more pronounced until the transmission goes though its learning curve. It did seem to dminsh a bit over time, but its still definitely there.

Thanks for the mind ease guys... I know now that it has been doing this "normal TC lockup" since I got the truck..... I had always thought it just switching gears until I saw the TC Lock on my digital gauges and felt the hard TC Lock at the same time...Just made me question it....

Thanks again guys... I am hooking up to my Fifth wheel on Wensday and going to the Lake for Thanksgiving... The whole family is going... Tryin something new..... So now I am mentally stable on knowing the Duramax is SOLID..thanks
