I believe that it in fact gets to hot for DEI header wrap? not 100% but i think its well over 1500* and header wrap starts smokin at 1200* on the dyno and bursts into flames at about 1700* go ahead ask me how I know you will love the story!

You dont want to go into the dealership with a bulletin number. Just go in and tell them you get a diesel smell in the cab mostly durring regen. The tech will find it.

tell him you passed out at the wheel and woke up just in time to swerve from on oncoming semi. That should get you to the front of the line.

what's the bulletin # just the same? everytime i've gone in without it, it was recorded as "could not duplicate" and i've come home with a good deal of wasted time and no problems fixed. i'm sure others can relate to this.

killer bee hit it on the head. if you have a leak and you are losing your thermal energy aka heat it takes longer for regen, so that means more fuel for regen.

#PIP4360: Exhaust Odor During DPF Regeneration - keywords 6.6 align alignment clamp diesel down engine leak LMM pipe regen shield soot turbo turbocharger - (Mar 4, 2008)

Subject: Exhaust Odor During DPF Regeneration

Models: 2007-2008 Chevrolet Express, Kodiak, Silverado

2007-2008 GMC Savana, Sierra, Topkick

Equipped with the 6.6L Diesel Engine RPO code LMM

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A dealer may encounter a customer concern of exhaust odor during a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration.

A leak at the turbocharger exhaust pipe may induce an exhaust odor that is noticed during a DPF regeneration.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Inspect for leakage at the turbo outlet to turbocharger exhaust pipe (down pipe) connection. Complete the current SI diagnostic for Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Full System Air Leak Test). Exhaust soot accumulation on the inside of the turbocharger exhaust pipe heat shield may also be noticed. If a leak at turbocharger exhaust pipe has been verified, inspect the exhaust pipe for misalignment. Inspection may reveal misalignment at the turbocharger exhaust pipe retaining bracket.

Align or adjust the turbo exhaust pipe as needed. If the exhaust pipe continues to leak, replacement of the turbocharger exhaust pipe may be necessary. Replacement of the retaining bracket may also be necessary if it was damaged by the pipe misalignment.

Make repairs as needed and evaluate the customer concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

so how will this increase fuel mileage.. unlike a gasser having a leak and sucking air in ,fooling the o2 in thinking lean condition and dumping more fuel in.. so basically ur telling me the heat sensors that arent that accurate, are going to notice a change of temp and dump more fuel in to keep the temps up during regens. not sure if i buy into that , but its worth checking into i guess.
