ya blackdeath it is all about heat in the regen mode the hoter you get the dpf the faster it burns off the soot. There is also pressure sensors on the dpf, so it knows when its clean. This is why I clam bs on the 3 gal max for fuel during regen. The one thing that I have seen testing dpf systems, there is no such thing as average regen. My self I can see a d-max useing 6 gal during regen it is all about the climate you are in and what you are doing.

Subject: Exhaust Odor During DPF Regeneration

Models: 2007-2008 Chevrolet Express, Kodiak, Silverado

2007-2008 GMC Savana, Sierra, Topkick

Equipped with the 6.6L Diesel Engine RPO code LMM

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A dealer may encounter a customer concern of exhaust odor during a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration.

A leak at the turbocharger exhaust pipe may induce an exhaust odor that is noticed during a DPF regeneration.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Inspect for leakage at the turbo outlet to turbocharger exhaust pipe (down pipe) connection. Complete the current SI diagnostic for Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Full System Air Leak Test). Exhaust soot accumulation on the inside of the turbocharger exhaust pipe heat shield may also be noticed. If a leak at turbocharger exhaust pipe has been verified, inspect the exhaust pipe for misalignment. Inspection may reveal misalignment at the turbocharger exhaust pipe retaining bracket.

Align or adjust the turbo exhaust pipe as needed. If the exhaust pipe continues to leak, replacement of the turbocharger exhaust pipe may be necessary. Replacement of the retaining bracket may also be necessary if it was damaged by the pipe misalignment.

Make repairs as needed and evaluate the customer concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
awesome...thanks

just thought i would share some of my testing while the truck is in regen normal driving regen takes on average 18 mins and uses 2 gals of fuel so i thought i would experiment a little when i noticed it go into regen i manual shift it and keep the revs up at about 2200-2500 rpm regen happens alot quicker average 9 mins and uses 1.6 gal of fuel doon this experiment 10 times on each scenario to get my averages keeping the revs up seems to help alot.

Is there a way to see how many regens a truck has had?

For example, my truck has 4000 miles on it.
If it regens supposedly every 300 or so miles, it should have regen'ed about 13/14 times?

What if it regens too often?

Now, to try to get a little more off topic...keeping the exhaust hot should help regen. Exhaust wrap sounds like a great idea, but if it cannot handle the heat...what else should one use? My thought would be to have the exhaust coated (ie ceramic or some thing similar). Peoples thoughts?
