hook'em don't!

Don’t do it! I know what your thinking. Just wait for your new motor and be happy it doesn’t have all that crap attached to the back of it!

but for real the well tenders around here actually traded in all there new dmax for gasers because idling in the well pits all day running PTO's was making the trucks basically NOT RUN ANYMORE. same goes for a hot shot I talked to at a truck stop one day, he said that after five times on the hook hauling that he walked into his dealer and set the DPF and CAT on the counter and said they could mail it back to GM with his warranty card because no truck was worse then no warranty.

The DPF regen no matter what way it happens is a joke and only a band ad for the automakers until a better solution can be reached. I have no idea when that will be or how it will be done but trust me these DPF things will not be on our trucks forever.

I'm set till after the 2010 release...

No, Just a DPF thought to ponder on...well, maybe just a little thought towards a trade I just had the rear axle cover off for inspection and service, and it looked new. I stay on top of the service on the Allison with no tunes added, so about the only other wear and replace issue for the next 100k miles would be U-joints/Carrier Bearing, front-end parts or a gauge cluster.

Oh, I am intrigued on the thought of a new motor after 94k miles, especially since I have corrected the engine life robbing turbo mouthpiece flaw and added the CAI.

It should be sweet, after the break-in. I'm going to check for contamination/blockage at the radiator and determine if a new one is needed. Don't wanna' run a crappy cooler on a new build.

My thoughts now are, how many components come with the New engine. Is it just the Block and Heads, or are other things included such as EGR, Turbo, Intake and such.

Taking out the DPF does not void your warranty. Just like anything else, GM would have to prove that is what caused the problem. Not to say the dealer won't try to use it against you though...and they will more than likely do so to cover their backsides. The biggest issue with taking out the DPF is that you are now eligible for a very big fine from the EPA. When you tamper with emissions equipment, it is worse than killing someone or copying music and movies in the eyes of the EPA.

Will you pick up some MPG? Sure, but if the truck is brand new the real question would be - is it worth it. I will be leaving my DPF on until my warranty is up. In my eyes the 3-4 MPG you may gain (which is due to the regen cycle and not a constant number) is not worth the amount to buy a DPF delete kit, programmer (so you don't constantly set codes), possible loss of warranty (with a programmer you can basically kiss your drive train warranty good bye if GM knows about it) and of course any fines/imprisonment/confiscation that the government has the ability to do.

The dpf is monitored by the computer. If you are doing alot if towing and highway driving it will not regen as often. The computer is set on a cycle and it will do an occasional regen. I know this because when I deleted mine a week later and roughly 400 miles it threw a code. It cannot be monitoring the tubes at all times because it would have thrown a code when I started it after the dpf delete. IMHO I beleive the Dpf delete is worth it because the 3 to 4 MPG paid for itself when fuel was 5.00 a gallon. The 4 better I got was 25% better on my dually. If the dealer checks the ecm for a simple problem then they are way to anal!!! It is illegal to go snoopin for a programmer on nonrelated procedures. Kinda like invasion of privacy. I took the chance that there is nothing wrong with the internals before I voided my warranty. If the truck does have something wrong withthe motor I can just cross my finger and hope my dealer is cool with it. When I took it in for the reflash they noticed my LBZ and my service manager told me if I had problems just make sure to pull the programmer off.

My uncle bought a new dually 08 Chevy ex cab with the factory exhaust and stock tuning he got 11.3 mpg around town, now with his DPF removed and replaced with an 07 classic MBRP turbo back, and a EFI tune to make more power/disable the DPF settings he is getting 15.7 mpg around town.

I get 16 average on a tank (including regen). Being that the truck is far from being broken in, and we are running winter blend, I am sure that number will increase. It may not be as good as what my LB7 was, but it will end up close I think.

As for legal issues...that can be debated all day. If you download a program into the ECM and later have an engine related issue, you will more than likely be paying for the fix. If you have an inline box, and they happen to see it when you are getting your oil changed they can and will (depending on the dealer) flag your truck in GM's computer system.

I overheard the GM service guys the other day, saying that half the time THEY can't even read the tune history. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.
