i have an 08. pulls great on the farm from hay wagons to silage boxes, 6 ton dump (bumper hitch), to my 7 ton goose. rides great plenty of power and the engine brake is great.
Any duramax will pull hard if u can get a cheap programmer for it. Im suprised your 03 didnt pull to impress. But idk if u had any mods. But the LMM AND LBZs both have enough torque and hp to pull hard stock : )
I pull a 36" horse trailer with roughly 25000 pounds or more with my 08 2500HD. It pulls great stock and even better with the mods. I do have airbags though.
I've used mine for hot shotting pulling a 40' mini float. Gross weight over 36,000 many times and zero major problems. Only probs. have been fuel filter related ( change it regularly!!!) Out pulls anything else I've driven.

That was probably my problem, no mods, with the first Duramax. I loved the truck, but it just didnt really pull to impress. Ive definitely heard a lot of good things about the newer ones though. When hauling hay i stay around 30,000 lbs, my question is will the new Dmax out pull a 5.9? My 5.9 is a little sluggish with hills, but i could run 80mph easy on a flat. One more Question, does the 08's come factory with an exhaust brake?

Plenty of power...so much so that against that kind of load you'll be easing the seemingly endless torque onto the Drive Line. NO tromping to the floor is needed, even for hills. Totally different throttle needed compared to driving the 6.4L Furd also.

So Hookem Horns, your saying that i wont miss the Cummins at all? My dad loves his Duramax and is going to let me test his before i throw down the cash, but im thinking regardless im going to get one i love the room and ride compared to a dodge. Do the new ones come with a factory exhaust brake?

Im not sure if you can order them with exhaust brakes. But the allison does downshift for you when your in tow haul which helps quite a bit when pulling trailers.
