Must be a big improvement in the newer models. Mine really lies. I have seen 19 dic reading on interstate and actually got 14.8 hand calculated. Speedo is accurate.
I get about 14 in the city and 18 19 on the highway but with the regen it always drop my whole average to exatly 14.5 mpg on every tanks.

I just changed hypertech max energy set on stage 1 for better fuel economy to the quadzilla stealth 2 set on on economy and the difference is awesome. better driving, shifting and fuel economy.
P.S.
My fife didn't want me to buy the truck and buy all the upgrades for it so I decided to get rid of the wife!!!!!!
I did a hand calculated 17.6 mpg last weekend on a 250 mile trip, running empty. We have a 9000# Travel Trailer and get 11-12 mpg towing. My truck is totally stock, and I'm ecsatic with these numbers. They are far better than the 04' Dodge 2500 QC w/ a 5.7 Hemi I had before this Awesome Chevy HD. In fact, my Dodge only got 11-12 mpg empty and 4.5-5mpg towing the same Travel Trailer. Not to mention the gutless nature and lack of torque that the Dodge had.
I Love My Chevy 2500HD Duramax/Allison!!!

I've searched the forum, but only found a comment here and there for an unaltered, stock engine with all emissions equipment. I was wondering if some people could share their city and highway mileages (and speed on highway) unloaded. I checked Consumer Reports, and their mileages for the Silverado 2500 Duramax were 9 and 21 (no speeds given).
Thanks.
Michael
I have a 2005 crewcab, short bed, 4X4 all stock. my unloaded mileage is 20-22 MPG driving 60-65 in rolling terrain. I tow a 10K-11K pound 5th wheel and average 12MPG driving 60MPH in rolling terrain. In flat interstate conditions, my towing efficiency increases to 14MPG. In mountainous conditions, efficiency deteriorates to 9-11 MPG.
Terrain and wind conditions, as well as your driving style, will have a significant effect on efficiency. You should also check your tire pressure. I operate my truck and 5th wheel at max recommended pressures: 80-psi in trailer and truck rear wheels; 55-psi in truck front tires.
