With the DIC computing the Oil Filer Life, how do you adjust for the use of Synthetic? In other words, What is the DIC calculating for, Synthetic or Fossil oil? Then, if it is calculating for Fossil, how many more miles do you allow for synthetic?

I have about 12K miles on the truck. My first oil change, it went about 3500 miles up to Alaska and the monitor was still reading 45%. But, being used to what a gasser's oil looked like, I changed it. It was very black. Then, I came all the way back from Alaska (~ 5K miles) and changed it again. At the second oil change it still had 10% "Remaining Oil Life." But, I changed it anyway.

According to the Operator's Manual, the Monitor calculates the remaining oil life based on use and conditions, etc. But, 2K miles seems a bit premature to me. Especially, given my experience with mine. IMO, 4K-5K is about it for me. I am still not used to black oil. I know, black oil is not necessarily bad. But, I am still trying to get used to it.

I'd just like to know how one compensates with the Monitor for the use of synthetic versus fossil oils.
