You can start on your first oil change. There are a lot of view points and everyone seems to have a favorite. IMHO AMSOIL is worth the money. AMSOIL uses only the best chemical base stocks and additives to create their products. They are designed to save the customer money. The benefits of AMSOIL include better performance, smoother running, excellent cold flow charateristics for cold morning starts, better fuel economy and extended drain intervals (3xOEM or 1 year whichever comes first).
Let me caveat that drain interval for the 2007 and newer light duty diesels with DPFs. AMSOIL is now recommending OEM drain intervals unless you are conducting oil analysis. Reason behind this is that manufacturers are starting to see issues with fuel dilution in the motor oil of 2007 and newer light duty diesel engines and CAT C13 and C15 engines with DPF.
Here is some more information about it from a
thread we started a month or so ago and updated again this last week.
In a Technical Bulletin updated last week they stated that AMSOIL is saying their additives are holding up under the dilution under the maximum amount of 5% dilution and that the oil analysis is simply a precaution to make sure that the vehicle you are running is not having more dilution than another.
If you are running your truck hard, towing on a regular basis with operating temps running at a higher level, it will commonly burn out the contaminants in the DPF with Passive Regeneration.
The daily drivers, those that only see about 5-50 miles per day of commuting will go into the Active Regeneration process to clean out the DPF by dumping raw fuel into the exhaust stroke of the cycle in an attempt to allow hot exhaust gases to ignite the dumped fuel to burn out the soot collected in the DPF.
Bottom line if you have a DPF and it is a daily driver you run a higher risk of active regeneration and fuel dilution.
If you are planning on modding your truck and losing the DPF, this issue no longer is a problem for you and you can run AMSOIL at the 3XOEM recommendation or 1 year whichever comes first.
Oil analysis is a good thing and recommended for any diesel owner to ensure the quality of your motor oil and to help identify potential problems, beyond fuel dilution.
Probably way more information than you wanted. AMSOIL offers a
full line of products for your vehicle and through the preferred customer program I can save 25-35% off retail prices. If I can provide you further information, just PM me.
Take care,
