On-star has sure fooled a lot of people into believeing that it's service has something to do with satellites.

In reality its the most expensive cell-phone service you will almost never use.

Are you communicating with the operator from within the vehicle, or on a cell phone? I ask because it makes a difference on what to look for to solve your problem.

If you take the time to look at OnStar coverage maps, you will notice that the sevice disappears where ever cell phone service in not available. Satellites do not have holes in their coverage like that.
