I just installed the MBRP part # S6028409, Dual T-409 XP Series Stainless Steel on my 07 LMM. This is a particulate filter-back exhaust system to work with the advanced emissions control system. It connects to the Diesel Particulate Filter and eliminates the muffler. The part comes with 2 polished T-304 tips. LOOKS way better, sounds the same??? I can't tell any different in the sound. Air intake louvers just ahead of the tips looks much cleaner and the pipes turn out behind the wheels.
I've been getting a lot of calls here latley about removing the DPF and cats on these trucks. Here's the actual law we, as a manufacture, have to worry about. This is from the federal clean air act:
“Sec. 203. (a) The following acts and the causing thereof are prohibited─
(3)(A) for any person to remove or render inoperative any device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine in compliance with regula*tions under this title prior to its sale and delivery to the ultimate purchaser, or for any person knowingly to remove or render inoperative any such device or element of design after such sale and delivery to the ultimate purchaser; or
(B) for any person to manufacture or sell, or offer to sell, or install, any part or component intended for use with, or as part of, any motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine, where a principal effect of the part or component is to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine in compliance with regula*tions under this title, and where the person knows or should know that such part or component is being offered for sale or installed for such use or put to such use;”
Section 205 talks about the penalties that can be assessed for such actions:
SEC. 205. CIVIL PENALTIES.
(a) Violations.─ Any person who violates sections 203(a)(1), 203(a)(4), or 203(a)(5) or any manufacturer or dealer who violates section 203(a)(3)(A) shall be subject to a civil penalty of not more than $25,000. Any person other than a manufacturer or dealer who violates section 203(a)(3)(A) or any person who violates section 203(a)(3)(B) shall be subject to a civil penalty of not more than $2,500. Any such violation with respect to paragraph (1),(3)(A), or (4) of section 203(a) shall constitute a separate offense with respect to each motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine. Any such violation with respect to section 203(a)(3)(B) shall constitute a separate offense with respect to each part or component. Any person who violates section 203(a)(2) shall be subject to a civil penalty of not more than $25,000 per day of violation.
So what it boils down to is every time that you recommend to a customer that he can remove his cat or DPF, and further support that by offering to sell him a pipe to do it, you run the risk of receiving a fine of $25,000 (that's PER infraction), and you yourself receiving a fine of $2500. I hope this helps you understand the importance of the situation. Remember these new controls were put there for a reason and you can expect they will begin to enforce it. Just F.Y.I. guys
on the lmm if you want a turbo back exhaust just buy one for a lbz and then get efilive or get someone with efilve to tune the dpf ecm stuff out so you don't have to deal with the codes!
if you just want to get rid if the tip just buy a mrbp filter back kit they are only like 210 and come with a good looking intercooled tip!!

was wonderin if you could take the muffler off of a lmm if it would be any louder . i like that straight sound a duramax makes the hairs on my neck standup.or if the only louder u can get it is by takin all the dfp and catlatic off
I installed a mbrp turbo back kit today. Everything went well. I did this after I was towing my 10,000 pound trailer yesterday and my truck went into reduced engine power mode and i could not get it to regine to clean the "exhaust filter" Luckily I had my Quadzilla Stealth 2 with me and was able to clear codes as I was driving because it would not go over 10 mph with the trouble code. I called the dealer I bought the truck from and they acted as I didnt know what I was talking about.
I re-programmed the stealth 2 for no dpf and the truck is getting 4mpg better than it was with the dpf system. I removed the tranny cross member in order to remove the exhaust system in three pieces in case I have any problems, it and the sensors can all be re-installed problem free to take it in for warranty. Hope this helps some of you with the new lmm emission compliant bs engine.

Lot of truth to this, there is a company by the name of Caspers Electronics that makes a bypass for the After Coverter O2 Sensor on late model vehicles. The Fed's hit them with a huge fine and are making them reimburse anyone whom purshased one.
The post from Banks is dead on. EPA and CARB will sit back and watch for a while, give the tuners enough rope to hang themselves with, then swoop in with Cease and Desist orders along with warrants and subpoenas for all sales records, advertising materials, and any other evidence that the tuners knew darn well that all these DPF delete kits and EGR blocker plates were not for 'off-road use only.'
Major fines and penalties await those who are actively selling such hardware and software today.
Remember that we get a new President in Jan 2009; he/she will appoint a new EPA Secretary. If the Dems win you better believe enforcement activity is going to ramp WAY up - you will have the Sierra Club with a 24 hr hotline to the top brass at EPA.
has anyone removed turbo to filter piping,, (removing cat) . and filter back . .. just keeping the filter ,avoiding codes.? would this work or would other problems occur.
sorry for the poor writing its late and i cant seem to make it sound better.lol
