I just installed new 4" MBRP and tuned with EFI live. EFI live is like no other! You will like the performance gains and their is a ton of air flowing now with the new set up. After install I walked inside to hear my wife ask me, "Are you working with the air compressor?" Now i am shaking in anticipation for "Idaho Robs" tunes to appear in my inbox.

As soon as I straight piped my truck......the exhaust started that hissing noise. It kinda reminds me of someone blowing through a straw.....

It sounds like a jet engine coming out of a 5" straight pipe.

If you do a little bit of searching here you will find everything you need to know about getting rid of the hiss if you want.

You will have to set the VVT percentage down to somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25 at 10 mm3 and 800 RPM on the following tables B2210 thru B2215 and B2222 thru B2224.

I ended up making a map in the scan tool to see exactly where the vane position was affected at idle and 800 RPM at 10 mm3 is where it was. I actually have mine set at 40 % right now. That seemes to allow it to stay closed to a point during warm up and rumble more once it gets warm.

Talk to IdahoRob about purchasing EFILive. There are no differences in price (EFILive sets them I think) so it's all about service after the sale. Rob won't let you down.

If you leave use a 4" MBRP with the muffler and the quad will you still hear the hissing? I am wanting to to the DPF delete but need to keep the truck quiet.

Yes, the 4" with just a muffler will hiss and the Quad will not "tune" it out. I think it's the DOC that is actually muffling the hiss on the stock exhaust, which is also the most restrictive part of the exhaust.

The hissing is not loud just notciable, if you have ever had another diesel they all sound different at idle. The Dmax is more of a hiss.

After installing my MBRP 4" SS turbo back exhaust, I picked up the hiss your talking about. It sounds like a turbine engine whining and getting ready for takeoff!!! I love the new sound!! I was working and had started the truck to let it warm up a bit and the homeowner came out and says WTF is that noise??? I tell him about what I did and then he saw said exhaust and he thought it was cool. (He builds old rods!!) Just my 2cents.
