So I started working on the complete egr delete and I am at the point of removing the up pipe now that I got that pesky downpipe off and out.
What is the best way to get the 3 bolts in the center of the up pipe (the blind ones) out? My bolts are 6 point 13mm. The bottom 3 bolts were a pain and they were visible and rather accessible with the front tire off.
I've sprayed them with a wack of BreakAway to the best of my abilities so hopefully they are all soaked well.
This... Just did my LBZ today. Had my young son lay on the motor and I was in the wheel well. He helped me postion the ratchet on the bolts and while I turned. Was really easy. The bolts where it meets the manifold was my problem. Two of three snapped...
Is it necessary to remove the top 3 up pipe bolts that I believe are connected to the cooler if I were to simply cut this riser portion off? As if I were to weld a plate onto it?
I'm getting closer to doing this myself. I've been reading lots of threads and doing my research. Full EGR delete with PPE Manifolds and a CP3 swap. Thinking of going to a big single as well though also contemplating twins. My tech at the dealer says to pull the cab (says it can be done in less than 4 hours by myself) with access to a lift, which I have. They were replacing head gaskets on a 12 and said with a helper they had the cab off in a little over an hour. Full access to EVERYTHING. I'm not sure I've got the balls though...I'd screw something up.
As noted I sprayed the up pipe bolts heavily with penetrating fluid. On my '12 LML, the 9 up pipe bolts were 13mm, 6 point. Seems the sizes vary from GM?
Anyhow, with passenger side tire and fender liner off, access wasn't too bad. Crunched in the fender area, and I'm a medium sized guy I'd say. Bolts came out not bad, but we did use a breaker bar. Each bolt that came out was moist with penetrating fluid (left overnight to soak prior). I think this is why this went better than average for removal.
So in summary and other's have noted in their feedback doing this. A helper for the up pipe removal, breaker bar, and day before soak the bolts in penetrating fluid. Lots!
Now, new thread for me to rant about MBRP 3" downpipe install. 'uhNo
Nice. Glad you got it done. And yes the downpipe was the hard part... but mostly because the nut for the vband clamp at the turbo was on the bottom and was a pain to get to....
