The fuel filter does not stop 100% of the dirt and other debris. The longer you run a filter, more of the containments will be pumped through the injection system. That can cause damage injector and CP3 damage, and will be very expensive to repair.

You should change the fuel filter from 6K to 10k miles, and maybe even sooner, if you do not drive a lot. and it sits for extended times.

There is strong suction from the CP3, so if a filter is restricted, it can suck dirt and debris through a filter-- IMO.

Hmmmm...If thats the case I would say you have a defective filter. I run two filters and I can tell by the performance of the engine when its time to change it.
The stock filter I might change once a year as now it does very little other than be a backup.

How often with the nictane cat adapter and filter

When a bought the truck, switch to amsoil in the engine and tranny 9000 miles ago, just finishing up putting head gaskets in now and will be fireing her up sometime Monday. So I would seem in another 15000 to change tranny fluid again?

I go every 10k. I can see my economy drop off as it gets close. I slap a new one on and it will jump back up. I go 20k on the tranny filter. Did a flush on the tranny at 50k.

I was told absolutely not flush the Allison, wrong or right?

Hope you didn't flush it, heard thats real bad. I was going to do the HOOT method but heard even that can run the tranny pump dry and be bad news so double drain and fill it will be shortly.

If you live in a cold climate make sure you have a fresh filter before it gets cold. I had a problem with mine LMM when the DIC said 50% and it got cold. It went from 50% to zero in 5 minutes idling at -25 when we had a cold snap and left it outside overnight.

Better start stocking up on viagra then. And I too have heard that the Allison is not to be flushed but just from people on here. I have heard others say no damage is done if the flush is done right and some people recommend it. I'm at 37,000 miles now and am certainly due for some maintenance on the tranny :(

I go by the dic. The last time I changed mine was back in may of last year and only showing 60 odd percent on the dic. Not sure how many miles are on it but Atleast 5k. The truck runs good but after reading this I wonder if I should change the fuel filter?
Normaly I'll change it at 35 to 40%

I go 8k between filter changes but now with a CAT and AD2 filters I can let the first go to 8 and the second go longer, but since it only cost 18 bucks I will prob just change it anyway, I plugged a filter on the hwy last summer with the camper attached and we spent the night in the rest stop so I always keep extras with me

smart, because all the filter life estimates are based on good quality fuel which we may not always get... i keep spares in all my equipment and as soon as a sense of accelerator-power lags becomes evident out comes the filter-->irregardless of miles or hours....

Get the nicktane adapter and run the CAT 1R-0749 monster size 2 micron filter and change every 10k for $17

.

I changed mine on my LML about 10K ago and the DIC still says 77%. Is my DIC off or does it read the flow through the filter?

Also anyone know how many quarts of tranny fluid is in the allison? Took it to the dealer to get something checked and the paperwork said they added 2.5 quarts of tranny fluid. Truck only has 28k on it. Doesn't seem right.

The DIC doesn't read flow. Believe it's similar to oil life- uses a bunch of algorithms or some shit. Mine rarely goes down anywhere near 50%.

I deleted my factory fuel filter and only use my AD filter now, so I change every 5k for peace of mind. O ya, and my factory filter has been gone for 15k miles and my truck still counts down the fuel filter life like normal. Lol
