I read all the other smoke threads and I have the same problem. What I have not read is what any one as done to stop this red light smoke screen. I took it to the dealer and took it back from them when they told me that by changing the air and fuel filter they would fix it for a bargin price of 361.00, I changed both, and of course, still smokes at the drive through. tried another dealer and asked them to check the injectors. I was told they are fine. any one have a clue?????
Fill out your sig so we can see what year/model duramax you have. This will help us help you decide what is going on. LB7, most likely injector, LLY most likely reflash of the ecm. LBZ most likely glow plug controller. LMM haven't heard of any smoking yet(except the ones I've tuned)

White smoke indicates bad injectors. Gm warranties teh LB& engine to 200k. I had hte same problem, finally took it to the dealer after getting varying recommendations. They replaced all injectors at no cost. There may be a $100 "deductalbe" but I wasn't charged. The warranty covers the LB7, apparently, 2001-mid 2004.
I'm getting the same problem with my truck, but it smokes when i "get on it" to pass someone on the highway, not at stop lights. should i be thinking that this is an injector problem as well. When i had the truck in the dealership 2 months ago for the instrument cluster they said everything was a-okay with the injectors when i asked them to look at them.

Did either dealer do a computer print out for you which shows the injector performance? If not, get to another dealer. My computer printout showed all injectors were running rich and the dealer replaced them at no charge. Also, the injector warranty was extended to 200,000 miles by GM. If you got the letter about the extended warranty, take it with you. Though I am still worried about the future of my new injectors, I have not had any more smoking problems (Yet). Good Luck!

Anybody had this problem with a LBZ? My 2006 Dmax recently started to blow white smoke recently...it's mostly in the mornings - about 1 minute after startup and it goes away after a little while.

If it there is white blue smoke that is usually related to an injection timing issue. Now the Edge doesnt do anything until your coolant is at 85% of normal operating temps. So smoke when it is cold usually isnt going to be module related. Is it smoking only after it sits for a while? If it smokes after it has sat for a while that could be from a leaky injector.
Great advice Pat

I had same problem. Blue smoke at idle. I added Redline Injector Cleaner about 5000km
ago. Havent had problem since. I also use a product called X-M5 with the fuel for lubricity. Helps a bit with milage too.
I believe the injectors are wearing out because they dont have enuf EP lubrication from the lack of sulfur in the fuel
Those injectors are doing several times a second what would have been regarded as flat earth ten years ago.... 26000psi is an incredible amount of energy to contain without lubrication that they were engineered to have in the medium (diesel). The greenies have come along and taken away a key component, so I believe that something must take sulfurs place, or we end up where we are right now.....
Remember late timing = white-blue smoke
and Low pressure can also mimick late timing
On really cold mornings (-0*F) I have noticed my LLY wiffing a very light but noticeable haze on high idle, but added a bit of lucas fuel treat and it went away.
I would have to try some things before coughing up the coin for new injectors.
Just my .02
